Mission

Our Mission

The mission of Dr. Whitaker’s Freedom of Health Foundation is to support and promote alternative medical solutions, practices and medicines through research, education and promotion of such solutions and practices to the general public.

Current Issues

You may have supported nonprofit foundations in the past, but let me tell you how the Freedom of Health Foundation is different. Many nonprofits seem to raise money to salary staff. Dr. Whitaker does most of the front work for the Foundation, and because he draws no salary, our operating costs are kept to a minimum. If you want to donate to a nonprofit foundation that gets things done, I urge you to join the Freedom of Health Foundation.

Here is an overview of how we’re helping win the fight for medical freedom.

  • We are protecting your access to nutritional supplements.
  • We are fighting for medical freedom around the world.
  • We are raising awareness about alternative therapies.
  • We are assisting persecuted physicians.
  • We are publicizing dangers of conventional medicine.
  • We are helping patients receive the medical treatments of their choice.

We are protecting your access to nutritional supplements.

The Codex Alimentarius Commission is a group designated by the United Nations’ World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to set international food standards. In July 2005, this commission voted to adopt specific guidelines on vitamin and mineral supplements in international trade. Although these guidelines do not restrict sales of nutritional supplements, they are a step in the wrong direction for health freedom because they call for future regulation of dosages and forms of nutritional supplements.

There is a lot of misinformation about Codex. Contrary to what you might have heard, your nutritional supplements are not about to disappear. Codex in and of itself will not change the laws in this country. However, we must remain vigilant because it could very easily affect us down the line. The Freedom of Health Foundation has and will continue to sponsor educational efforts to increase awareness and take action on this very important issue.

We are fighting for medical freedom around the world.

We have joined the fight against the European Food Supplements Directive, which clearly endangers Europeans’ access to nutritional supplements. It could eliminate hundreds of forms of nutritional supplements from the European market and dramatically limit the doses of many more. For example, vitamin C doses could be limited to 200 mg., well-studied forms of chromium (picolinate) and selenium (high-selenium yeast) forbidden, and vanadyl sulfate, which many depend on to help control their diabetes, banned outright.

We are raising awareness about alternative therapies.

The Freedom of Health Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness of the benefits of nutritional supplements and other safe, valuable therapies that are not taught in medical schools or used in most conventional medical practices. We accomplish this through Dr. Whitaker’s speaking engagements and interviews, press releases, and other outreaches.

We are assisting persecuted physicians.

Both the FDA and state medical boards capriciously harass practitioners of alternative medicine. This isn’t in response to patient complaints. In virtually all such cases patient are quite satisfied with their treatment. Yet these petty bureaucrats come in, sometimes with guns drawn, close down clinics, and deprive physicians of their livelihood and patients of their medical care.

The Freedom of Health Foundation has recently helped physicians in Connecticut, New York, and South Carolina whose medical licenses are in jeopardy because they used alternative therapies. We will continue, to the best of our ability, to help persecuted practitioners whose only crime is to treat willing patients with safe, effective alternative therapies.

We are publicizing dangers of conventional medicine.

The Freedom of Health Foundation is also working to make the public, media, and policymakers aware that while FDA bureaucrats are busy “protecting” the public from “dangerous” supplements and alternative practitioners, they turn a blind eye to the real problem: conventional medicine, which is our #1 cause of death. Believe it or not, adverse reactions to prescription drugs, infections acquired in hospitals, surgical errors, and other medical mistakes kill 780,000 Americans every year and harm millions.

It is imperative that Americans realize prescription drugs are our country’s most lethal consumer product, and that the large drug companies have a blighted history of withholding incriminating research and glossing over harmful effects of their wares.

We are also furthering education on effective alternative therapies. The medical profession — from medical schools and research institutes to ongoing physician educational outreaches — are in the pocket of the pharmaceutical industry. Because of this, patients simply aren’t told about alternatives by their conventional physicians, and as a result, they are denied access to lifesaving therapies.

We are helping patients receive the medical treatments of their choice.

Freedom of choice in healthcare is arbitrarily restricted, and people are dying as a result. The Freedom of Health Foundation has exposed the illegality and downright cruelty of the FDA and other agencies that forbid patients from receiving safe, effective, unconventional therapies.
